(Opera since about 1999) I'm in rural China, ADSL with ChinaNet. It's fast enough. Opera works pretty well but a lot of links from Google, (right click -open in background) and my on-line Bank connection, open the tab but display a series of black diamonds with a question mark. FF and IE8 work okay, so I suspect Opera doesn't like any delay in responses... can I change settings in Opera-config? My bank has some 40second time-out ? I also run Opera 10? in Puppy Linux and it connects my bank... I don't think this is a Great Firewall problem as some browsers get through. cheers Dave Nevin From amd.ledgem at gmail.com Tue Nov 17 02:38:02 2009 From: amd.ledgem at gmail.com (Ledgem) Date: Tue, 17 Nov 2009 02:38:02 -0000 Subject: [OU] 9.64 doesn't finish loading In-Reply-To: <1229.125.72.152.14.1258423377.squirrel@webmail.igrin.co.nz> References: <1229.125.72.152.14.1258423377.squirrel@webmail.igrin.co.nz> Message-ID: The black diamonds with a question mark makes it sound like an encoding issue. Is Opera set to Western and is your bank displaying Chinese characters of some sort? You can play around with it by doing View > Encoding > (set to Automatic, Unicode, or play around with some of the language-specific encodings). It could be a Great Firewall issue, though. I've had occasions working through VPN where Opera will time out on webpages or parts of webpages, but Safari will access them just fine. Opera's method of contacting pages seems to be quite different from other browsers.
