Opera has always been more than just a browser. It's part of Opera's
identity.
Removing all of these features wouldn't really make a difference in
reality. Since mail, chat and all such extras all re-use resources from
the browser itself, those parts are rather small. Removing them wouldn't
reduce the size much at all.
Unless you actually start using these extras, it won't have an impact on
performance, and these things are mostly hidden by default as well. So
people can already pick the parts they like by activating these "hidden"
extras.
