[OU] characters not displaying

Check your encoding settings. The menu hierarchy to access those settings is View > Encoding. You're most likely set to Automatic or Western. You can try the Unicodes, which should offer the best results.
Since I do a fair bit of Japanese language stuff, my default encoder is on Japanese > Automatic Detection. I only occasionally encounter problems when I visit webpages with Chinese text, but everything else renders fine. So if nothing else, you can try that (you may need the East Asian language pack installed for that to be an option, or a viable option).
