I had difficulty in using them. The sub-menus disappeared as soon as I 
tried to place the cursor on them. I did manage to get some to work by 
having the cursor towards one item's name, then right clicking it which
gave the usual opera menu, but left enough of the vertical sub-menu 
still open and visible to be able to click on a sub-menu item.

I found this by mistake! Obviously it is not satisfactory.
