You are right, but this is a piece of historical information :-)
Opera used to support some IE-stuff only in IE mode (mainly and 
perhaps only the "document.all" property). This became rather 
confusing and made it much harder to test in Opera than we'd like to 
because even when certain webmasters would test with the default "ID 
as IE" setting, the site might remain broken in Opera when the user 
configured it to ID as something else.

So today, what you identify as has absolutely no impact on what 
JavaScript Opera supports.
