[Opera-users] ascii codes in search box

In Opera's Google search text area,
I tried to enter ASCII 237
(which I believe is í)
in the usual way: holding down the
Alt key while typing 237 and then
releasing it.  I got a different
character then expected.  So I tried
a few others and never got what I 
expected.  What's more, after an
initial search, I wasn't able to enter
any characters at all with this method.

Anyone know what's going on?
