Even though I use Opera's IM and Email, I was a bit disappointed to see them included at first - I would have thought they'd be additional, extra downloads if used at all. I like them, and I use both (not the Usenet client, it's 
crap) but they should be optional - the code needed in the basic installation to account for extras like IM or Email should be tiny if it's done right - this would also mean that other (maybe user made) addons could be done eg. 
IRC, Global IM (including AIM, MSN etc) and a worthwhile usenet client could be added easily *and* remain _optional_!

At a guess Opera decided that although 100% of ppl didn't want them, a lot more ppl would switch to Opera if it was available and it would help make Opera mainstream. They thought that the 100% of people were all 
hardcore nerds and they wanted to expand their user base.
