Have you tried unchecking 'Look for local network

Win95sp2, Opera 5.11 w/o ads (using Opera since 3.62), IEradicator
has been run. At the beginning of the behavior below, the computer
was solo - it has since been joined to another via M$ Networking.
300mhz pentII, *old* analog phone lines with no option for cable (rural
location).
I have prefix set as 'www' and suffixes set as 'com, org, net'. I used to
have suffixes set as 'com, org, net' but changed that on the outside
chance that it made some difference. I believe, in the beginning, I also
tried typing the extensions with and without commas (gave 'www' a
comma even though it was only one item, removed commas from list of
suffixes). 'Look for local network machine' is not checked, and was only
*very* briefly checked - again on the outside chance that it made any
difference to 'server name completion'. 'Try name completion, using' is
*and always has been* checked.
*****Server Name Completion has Never worked for me. *****
I found pretending I didn't have the option in the first place to be the best
timesaver/fix for the situation.
