Ouch! That is pretty bad.

No. My operas are:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
5382 eirik 20 0 1156m 246m 10m S 0.7 25.2 513:21.53 opera
3135 eirik 20 0 524m 94m 9884 S 0.3 9.6 158:40.01 opera
(Both of them opera 9.62, both have probably been running for a month
or two... One of them have way too many tabs open (though only about
40 right now), and who knows how many tabs in the garbage can.)
However, I have family (on windows) who have been complaining for
years that opera eats up about as much memory as it can (i.e. around
3GB) after a couple of hours. Sometimes leading to a complete system
crash.
It is tempting to guess that it may be related to exactly which pages
are being viewed. Since this is linux, I guess we can assume that it
is not plug-ins that are leaking (since they aren't running in the
same process. Except java, which isn't a "plug-in").
