[Opera-Linux] Opera 9.23 won't open urls today.

Using Opera 9.23 on Kubuntu Feisty Fawn.

For some reason, Opera suddenly will not open urls and gives the error 
message:
"Network problem.  You tried to access the address http://www.whatever/, 
which is currently unavailable"

However I also have two other browsers (Firefox and Konqueror) that will 
open any url with no problems.

The only change I made today was to change the static IP of this machine 
which was not the same as in my /etc/hosts file but I can't see why that 
should make any difference at all.

Opera is my main browser.  Any ideas what might be going on or how to 
troubleshoot this?
