I guess this happens because you use a sounddriver that only accepts that one user
(program) can access it at a time. It is quite common.
In KDE the program artsdsp can help you. It will "attempt to reroute audio device to artsd"
as it says in the help text. If it works the arts code will provide multiuser (programs) support
for the sound device.
Use it like this artsdsp <opera-binary>. Note: You have to do this inside the opera script (look
at the bottom of the script) as artsdsp must have the executable as argument, not the
script. By default the script gets installed as /usr/bin/opera
